Stories That Bind, Inc. is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to creating community-engaged art works that facilitate a shared love of place among community members.

Our mission is to transform our diverse culture and nurture the human spirit by uniting cities and their people through participation in community-engaged artworks.

Lysle Norvell Shaw

Born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, Lysle achieved her undergraduate degrees in International Business and Art History from the University of Texas. She is the proud mother of three remarkable sons and happy to be blessed with three grandsons. In 2017, she earned a masters degree in Social Work from the University of Houston and now leads psychotherapy practices in both Austin and Houston. Stories that Bind speaks to Lysle’s love of art, creativity, and her unshakeable belief in the healing and growth that comes from the power of human connection.

Judy Rienstra Farrell

Judy believes in our unlimited ability to persevere, love, and connect. Devotion to family has been her driving force throughout her life--to her, family is everything. Also a native of Beaumont, Texas, her roots go deep as a descendent of some of the founding members of the communities of Southeast Texas. Judy married the love of her life and is the proud mother of three incredible boys, and three grandchildren. After attending the University of Texas and working in a myriad of jobs, including paralegal and Director of the Jefferson County Bar Association, she embraced the “better late than never” mantra and earned her undergraduate degree in English from the University of St. Thomas, Houston in 2020.
